Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
