The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

As any major awards ceremony approaches, one notices a demand to include of new categories to acknowledge overlooked contributions and delight the passions of enthusiasts with niche passions.

Another commentator previously argued for a horror game category. That would rule. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, this being someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. This is the request: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and it will always start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why movie academies avoid this approach. However, it represents an essential concession in the world of video games, showing incredible range they hardly constitute a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications actually cover numerous genres, allowing placement for numerous titles.

Not so for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges in a particular game, intense tile-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Which classification works within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games released every year that have no home during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition in any category in 2014
  • A different innovative game received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment that year
  • Limited numbers of logic titles scraped into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent modest productions, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most engaged experiences in the world continuing this trend for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience competes with famous sandbox experiences for the title of best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, and engaging with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. It would be easy to populate five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

Restating the point, these include experiences that otherwise have no home in important events. Puzzle game makers operate at the hard edge game development, producing among the purest expressions of the video game form. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait decades.
